Chemical Usage App and the SAICM’s Twelve Basic Elements

As of July 2014, the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management has identified in regional meetings 12 points that they called the ‘12 basic elements.’ These are 12 points that they think can help governments in formulating a solid chemical management strategy for their own jurisdictions. Most of these points are governmental, but there are some aspects in which Chemical Usage App can help out.

What are These Points that the App Can Help With?

These are the points out of the 12 basic elements of the SAICM that the Chemical App can help out with:

  1. Collection of data pertaining to the stakeholders’ management and use of chemicals.

  2. The determining of best practices within the participants’ jurisdiction in order to determine total risk.

  3. Establishment of a system for sharing information within each stakeholder’s roster of chemical users.

  4. Determining the impact of chemicals in health and environmental concerns with each stakeholder’s jurisdiction.

But how can the app help in these four points? The next section will discuss the capabilities of the app that can help towards achieving at least the goals of the SAICM’s 4 out of 12 basic elements.

What the App Can Do With Regards to the 4 Points

The App for Chemical Usage is able to achieve these things in relation to the four points of the SAICM:

1. Set up a centralized platform for the sharing of information.
With the Management Portal, each individual chemical user in each stakeholder’s jurisdiction can have a place for their mobile workforce to submit information into. In addition, should the government agency decide to make use of the app’s capabilities, it will be able to use the Portal to centralize submission of reports from each individual entity that uses the chemicals so that it is easy for it to collate these information as needed by Point nos. 1 and no. 4.

2. A Cloud-based resource library to store information.
The app makes use of a Cloud-based Resources E-Library to securely store and manage documents for the user or organization. This can help in Points no. 2 and no. 4. When there is a need to evaluate the effects of chemicals, as well as the consumption and practices of the entities belonging to the participants’ jurisdiction, they can simply pull up the relevant information from the E-Library.

3. Remote submission of information.
Point no. 3 calls for a system for sharing and submitting information, and thus also calls for a centralized management system. The governments can now establish this system that not only allows for easy information sharing but also for seamless remote submission using the app’s digital forms.
